Preparing the Petition
A petition for divorce, sometimes known as a dissolution petition or a petition for dissolution of marriage, is the initial form submitted to a court to begin the divorce process. It is the first official step to pursuing a divorce.
Gathering Financial Disclosures
A key element at the start of any divorce proceeding, full financial disclosure is an accounting of each spouse’s assets, debts, income and expenses. California has specific procedures that must be followed for full financial disclosure so that each party has comprehensive knowledge of the other’s financial circumstances in a divorce.
Negotiations
Once there has been full financial disclosure, the parties can determine a fair and equitable settlement in light of community property laws in California.
Drafting the Judgment
The judgment sets forth all the items which you have agreed upon in regard to custody, parenting time, child and spousal support and property division.
